We at Breast Treatment Associates, P.A. are always searching for ways to improve the quality of care available for our patients. One area of concern is the prevention and treatment of lymphedema.

Lymphedema can occur in breast cancer patients due to the removal of the axillary lymph nodes. It is characterized by swelling in the arm on the side where the breast cancer surgery was performed. The swelling can range from mild to severe. The swelling is a high protein edema and is a perfect medium in which bacteria can grow.

For our patients undergoing breast cancer surgery or for those who suffer from lymphadema, we refer them to specially trained massage therapists who provide treatment and education. Please call our clinic for more information.
