Our Doctor

Michael J. Cross, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a Surgical Oncologist who limits his practice to diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical diseases of the breast. He is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology of the Breast at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Cross is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. He is a past board member & current member of the American Society of Breast Disease. Dr. Cross is also an instructor in the American College of Surgeons breast ultrasound division. He has been certified in breast ultrasound since 2003 by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Cross has written numerous articles and editorials for multiple medical journals with the latest article being published in Seminars in Breast Disease, entitled: Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsy: a new standard in a new millennium, Vol 7, 148-152, 2004. He published an editorial in 2007 in The Journal of Surgical Oncology, regarding Sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Locally, Dr. Cross has served on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas chapter (Little Rock) and Ozark chapter (Northwest Arkansas) of the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. He also served from 2000-2005 on the Northwest Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (NARTI) board of directors. He was also appointed by former Governor Mike Huckabee, until 2003, to the oversight committee for breast cancer research in the state of Arkansas.
Dr. Cross travels nationally and internationally teaching breast ultrasound as well as surgical oncology principles and skills to other medical communities. Currently, Dr. Cross has teamed up with noted oncoplastic surgeon Gail Lebovic of Dallas, TX to teach core curriculum in oncoplastic surgery.

Dr. Cross is one of eight dedicated breast cancer surgeons in the state of Arkansas and introduced accelerated partial breast irradiation also known as breast brachytherapy in May 2003 to the state of Arkansas for the treatment of early breast cancer. He has also participated in the prominent national breast cancer trials: ACOSOG z10, z-11, and the well known b-32 sentinel node trial. He continues to use the latest research and technology available to maximize results in the treatment of breast cancer.

Dr. Cross was born and raised in the state of Arkansas. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas, and completed his medical degree at The University of Nebraska in 1987. He then completed a 5-year surgical residency at Scott and White memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas in 1992. This was followed by a Fellowship of Surgical Oncology of the Breast at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas which was completed in 1993.
